It has been nearly 3 years since Kaspar Hauser Records released a compilation. Our second comp was a collection of songs made to accompany "Jeder für sich und Gott gegen allen", the movie Werner Herzog made in 1974 about the German feral child Kaspar Hauser; twenty tracks in total (by a.o. Wouter Van Veldhoven, The Green Kingdom and Haruki) on two cd's. This time we're aiming for a larger boxset.
In recent years I have always had my iPod with me when travelling. It has a huge part of my record collection on it and many times I find myself listening to all kinds of songs in a rather greedy way: a big difference with the small selection of tapes you used to have in the car or that one record you played in your walk-man until the batteries ran out. As a child I remember myself sitting in the back of the car, going on holidays with my parents and listening to the records my dad copied onto a cassette before we left. One of my earliest memories is the tapedeck in my fathers car, a solid thing that sucked the tapes up with a heavy click sound. It survived a couple of cars and provided the passing landscape on long trips to Italy, France and Poland with music. Records by Roxy Music, The Smiths and Talking Heads became soundtracks to our travels as they were endlessly played until the tape broke down. The connection of memory and music is something that hasn't happened a lot to me lately. Therefore we'd love to compile a selection of songs that should suffice for a trip, without having hundreds of records in your pocket. An invitation to exercise musical sobriety, so to speak. The result should be a small bag with an mp3 player, loaded with music that is intended to accompany travelling, avoiding typical "on the road"-music. As usual it'll be released in a small run with handmade artwork and sold at a low price (basically to cover the cost of the small mp3 players). Contributors get a couple of copies in return. |
